The most common problem when you’re creating a new goalie mask is finding a pattern that’s already been done before.
So here’s a simple guide to help you create the perfect goalie mask.1.
Start with a blank piece of paper.
The most popular goalie mask pattern is the “Tall” goalie mask, but there are many other options.2.
Sketch the pattern on the paper, drawing the mask as if it’s on a piece of cardboard.
Measure the circumference of the mask.
The easiest way to get this is to cut out an X-shaped area on the mask to measure its circumference.
The measurements you’ll need to make are about 2 1/2 inches wide and 2 inches tall.4.
Measure your mask’s circumference with a ruler.
The mask’s measurement will be approximately 5/16 of an inch wide.5.
Use a pencil to trace the pattern onto the mask piece.
This is the first step in the process.6.
Using a mask pen, make the pattern.
When you’re finished, trace a line through the mask and the outline of the paper it’s printed on.
The outline will be what’s called a “bending point.”7.
Cut out the mask, using a knife or scissors.8.
Attach a foam cushion under the mask’s neck.
The foam will absorb any shocks that come with the mask during practice and will keep your mask in place during games.9.
Add padding around the neck and back to keep the mask in good condition.10.
Attached to the foam cushion are the instructions to attach your mask to your helmet.1
